Designing an oasis for creators

Oasis is a platform for content creators to discover and manage all of their brand deals. From negotiations and payouts to final creative asset delivery, Oasis offers everything creators need in one place.

First steps

Working alongside the Oasis team, Solitary Man designed and developed the entire web product. The work began with the customer at the center: the creator.

Creators

A creator is essentially a small business owner and requires very specific tools to manage and operate that business. Most tools in the market covered only one function, forcing creators to use a number of outdated, cumbersome products that were not designed for their workflow.

We began research by speaking with top creators to identify pain points. Three issues resonated with nearly every creator we spoke with.

• Payments: Billing clients and collecting payment was a constant issue. In some cases, brands would not pay after receiving the creative they hired the creator for.
• Assets and creative delivery: Handing off files via Dropbox or Google Drive did not solve the non-payment issue, and managing files across multiple clients in many places became confusing over time.
• Trust and accountability: The creator-brand relationship often operated on trust, but there was not enough accountability when brands took advantage of smaller creators.

We built the core product features around those issues. Payments were handled through a custom flow inside the product. Deliverables were watermarked until full payment was remitted. Marketplace-style reviews and ratings were added for both sides after project completion.

Generating additional revenue for creators

Creators are experts in specific fields and are often asked to give advice to their communities. Managing those requests through Instagram DMs is messy, so Oasis added a feature that allowed anyone to book a creator for 1:1 sessions through their profile.
